Nifty, or National Fifty is the NSE's benchmark index. Established in 1996 as CNX Nifty and was later renamed as Nifty 50 in 2015, it tracks the 50 largest and most liquid NSE stocks.
Nifty operates from 9:15 am to 3:30 pm, Monday to Friday, aligning with the Equity Segment timings.
Nifty consists of the Top 50 largest companies; whenever these 50 stocks move, nifty moves proportional to these stocks.
To be included in Nifty 50 a company must have a permanent office in India, be listed & traded on NSE, be part of Nifty 100, have a high free-float market cap & trade daily.
Nifty is calculated a float-adjusted, market capitalization-weighted method, reflecting the total market value of its stocks relative to a base period.
You can invest in Nifty through Index Mutual Funds and ETFs, which track index returns. ETFs update prices throughout the day, while Mutual Funds update at the end of the day.
