Overview
Bandhan Bank Limited is a commercial bank focused on serving underbanked and underpenetrated markets in India. Bandhan Bank has pioneered in India as a microfinance entity transforming into a universal bank. The Bank provide loans through Banking Unit (BU) outlets under Emerging Entrepreneurs Business (EEB) vertical to benefit small business owners in need of financial assistance. The Bank operates its Group Loans and Small Business & Agri Loans (SBAL) business channels from its BU outlets. In addition to the loan and deposit products, the bank also offers other banking products and services to generate non-interest income and cater towards the additional needs of its customers. These products and services include debit cards, Internet banking, mobile banking, EDC-POS terminals, online bill payment services and the distribution of third-party general insurance products and mutual fund products. Bandhan Konnagar was formed in 2001 as a non-governmental organisation ('NGO') providing microfinance services to socially and economically disadvantaged women in rural West Bengal. Bandhan Financial Services (BFSL) started its microfinance business in 2006 and the NGO transferred its microfinance business to BFSL in 2009 and thereby the entire microfinance business was undertaken by BFSL. By the time BFSL transferred its microfinance business to the bank, it was India's largest microfinance company by number of customers and size of loan portfolio. Bandhan Bank Limited was incorporated as on December 23, 2014 at Kolkata, West Bengal as a public limited company. A licence authorising the Bank to carry on banking business was issued by the RBI in terms of Section 22 of the Banking Regulation Act on June 17, 2015. The Bank began operations on August 23, 2015 when Bandhan Financial Services Limited ('BFSL'), its ultimate parent company, transferred its entire micro finance business to the bank and the bank simultaneously commenced general banking activities. To complement the micro loan business, since obtaining its banking license it has also focused particularly on creating a strong general banking business. To this end, it launched the general banking business on August 23, 2015 by opening a Greenfield network of 501 bank branches and 50 automated teller machines ('ATMs'). In 2016, Bandhan Bank expanded its branch and doorstep service centers (DSC) network to 656 branches and 2,022 DSCs. In 2017, the bank expanded its branch and DSC network to 840 branches and 2,546 DSCs. Bandhan Bank launched an initial public offer (IPO) during the period from 15 March 2018 to 19 March 2018. The IPO was a combination of fresh issue of 9.76 crore shares and an Offer for Sale of 2.16 crore shares from selling shareholders. The IPO was priced at Rs 375 per share. The stock debuted at Rs 485 on BSE on 27 March 2018, a premium of 29.33% over the IPO price. On 28 September 2018, Bandhan Bank informed the stock exchanges that since the bank was not able to bring down the shareholding of Non Operative Financial Holding Company (NOFHC) to 40 percent as required under the licensing condition, general permission to open new branches stands withdrawn and the bank can open branches with prior approval of RBI and the remuneration of the MD & CEO of the Bank stands frozen at the existing level, till further notice. Bandhan Bank said in a statement that it is taking necessary steps to comply with the licensing condition to bring down the shareholding of NOFHC in the Bank to 40 percent and shall continue to engage with RBI in this behalf. On 12 October 2018, Bandhan Bank informed the stock exchanges that the bank has received an exemption from the Securities and Exchange Board of India with respect to (i) lock-in of one year on the equity shares held by the promoter; and (ii) eligibility condition of one year from listing; as required under regulations 36(b) and 82(b) of the Securities and Exchange Board of India (Issue of Capital and Disclosure Requirements) Regulations 2009, respectively, in order to comply with the requirements of RBI Licensing Guidelines for Private Sector Banks issued on February 22, 2013.During FY 2018-19, the Reserve Bank of India vide its letter dated September 19, 2018 has imposed two restrictions on the Bank, one is withdrawal of general permission to open new branches whereby the Bank is not permitted to open new branches without the prior approval of the RBI and the other is freezing of remuneration of the MD & CEO at the existing level due to non-compliance of one licensing condition of dilution of excess shareholding of Non-operative Financial Holding Company ('NOFHC') in the Bank to 40% of the paid-up capital of the Bank, within three years from the commencement of the operations of the Bank. The Bank has taken initiatives to comply with the only remaining licensing condition and in that regard amalgamation of GRUH Finance Limited into and with the Bank has been approved by the Board by which the existing shareholding of NOFHC in the Bank will be brought down to 61% (approx.). The Bank along with NOFHC has also initiated several other steps to comply with the only remaining licensing condition at the earliest. The Bank is constantly in touch with the RBI on the matter. During FY 2017-18, the Bank forayed into the gold loan business by commencing gold loan operations at 57 branches in eastern India. The number of these branches increased to 60 in the FY 2018-19. On March 31, 2019, the Bank's outstanding gold loan book stood at Rs 128.28 crore from 22,619 customers. During the year 2019, the Bank set up 50 new branches and 21 new ATMs. As on 31 March 2019, the Bank has 986 Branches, 3014 DSCs and 481 ATMs. During the FY2019, total deposits grew by 27.64% to Rs 43,231.62 crore, of which Rs 17,617.73 crore (40.75%) was Current Account and Savings Account (CASA') deposits. Bandhan Bank was declared as the winner in the Noteworthy Lender to the MSE - Private Sector Bank' category at the SIDBI ET MSE Awards 2018 held on January 2019. Bandhan Bank received the award in Best Performing Bank' in terms of Aadhaar generation and update (using online client) at the Aadhaar Excellence Awards in October 2018. The bank also won the Emerging Company of the Year' at The Economic Times Awards 2019 for Corporate Excellence. Also won Fastest Growing Company' and Excellence in Business Performance' at The Economic Times Bengal Corporate Awards 2020. The Bank has set up 32 new branches, 332 new Banking Units and 4 ATMs and as a result, the branch distribution network went up to 1,018 branches and 485 ATMs in FY 2019-20. With the expanding network of banking outlets and customers, the total deposits increased from Rs 43,231.62 crore as on 31 March 2019 to Rs 57,081.50 crore as on 31 March 2020 registering an increase of 32.04%. The outbreak of COVID-19 pandemic across the globe and in India has contributed to a significant decline and volatility in the global and Indian financial markets and slowdown in the economic activities. The RBI on March 27, 2020, April 17, 2020 and May 23, 2020, announced 'COVID-19 Regulatory Package' on asset classification and provisioning. In terms of these RBI guidelines, the lending institutions have been permitted to grant an effective moratorium of six months on payment of all instalments/ interest as applicable, falling due between March 1, 2020 and August 31, 2020 ('moratorium period'). As at 30 June 2020, the total number of Branches, Banking Units and ATM network stood at 1018, 3541 and 485 respectively. As at 30 September 2020, the total number of Branches, Banking Units and ATM network stood at 1045, 3656 and 487 respectively. As at 31 Decemeber 2020, the total number of Branches, Banking Units and ATM network stood at 1107, 4090 and 487 respectively. The bank's total banking outlets as on 31 March 2021 stood at 5310. The network consists of 1147 branches and 4163 banking units and the total number of ATMs stood at 487 across the country. During the FY'21, the Total Deposits increased by 36.6% to Rs 77,972.2 crore as on 31 March 2021. During the year 2021, the Bank opened 751 new banking outlets, with a focus on geographies outside of East and North-East. Out of the total 5,310 banking outlets, 34% were established in rural, 39% in semi-urban, 18% in urban and 9% in metro locations. It opened 618 new Banking Units (BUs) pan-India with a sole focus on financial inclusion. In FY'21, Bank launched its digital account opening journey - Neo+ Savings account, to digitize the liability onboarding process. It further launched three new Current Account products in FY 2021-22 namely Biz Deluxe Current Account, Biz PRO Current Account and Start-up Current Account. Apart from this, Gold Loan was strengthened as a product during the year. During the year 2022, Bank extended housing loan services to 25 additional centres, thereby expanding its presence to 356 centres across 20 states and two Union Territories. It focused on affordable home loans with the majority of loans being below Rs 20 lakh. It launched a special campaign for higher ticket size loans with rate of interest starting from 6.40%. It started a Direct Sales Agent (DSA) channel for sourcing home loans and distribution of Unit Linked Insurance Plan (ULIP) in FY 2021-22. During the FY'22, the Bank has added 329 new banking outlets. Out of the total 5,639 banking outlets, 35% are established in rural, 37% in semi-urban, 18% in urban and 10% in metro locations. During FY 2021-22, Bank opened 287 new BUs pan-India with a focus on financial inclusion and to enhance portfolio quality by limiting the number of customers served by a BU. A total of 42 branches were added during the FY'22, taking Bank's footmark to 1,189 branches. During FY 2022-23, Bank opened 138 new BUs pan-India with a focus on financial inclusion and to enhance portfolio quality by limiting the number of customers served by a BU. A total of 222 branches were added during the FY'23, taking Bank's footmark to 1,411 branches. During the FY 2023, the Bank has added 360 new banking outlets. Out of the total 5,999 banking outlets, 35% are established in rural, 37% in semi-urban, 18% in urban and 10% in metro locations. During FY 2023-24, a total of 289 branches were added during the FY 2024, taking Bank's footmark to 1,700 branches. During FY 2023-24, the Bank has added 298 new banking outlets. Out of the total 6,297 banking outlets, 33% are established in rural, 37% in semi-urban, 18% in urban and 12% in metro locations. The Bank has launched the Core Banking System (CBS). Total Business of the Bank increased to Rs 2,88,207 crore, an increase of 10.9% over Rs 2,59,923 crore as on March 31, 2024, whereas the size of Balance Sheet reached to Rs 1,91,476.29 crore. During FY 2024-25, a total of 15 branches were added during the FY 2025, taking Bank's footmark to 1,715 branches. During FY 2024-25, the Bank added 12 new banking outlets. Out of the total 6,309 banking outlets, 34% are established in rural, 37% in semi-urban, 18% in urban and 11% in metro locations. The Bank introduced new Debit Card variants such as Bandhan Bank Platinum Plus, Titanium, PMJDY and AVNI Debit Card. In 2025-26, the Total Business of the Bank increased to Rs 3,20,577 crore, an increase of 11.2% over Rs 2,88,207 crore as on March 31, 2025 whereas the size of Balance Sheet reached to Rs 2,11,124 crore. The Bank has added 46 new banking outlets taking the total count of banking outlets to 6,355 as on March 31, 2026. The total number of ATMs as on March 31, 2026 was 438.

Bandhan Bank drops after management cuts RoA guidance, flags margin pressure

Bandhan Bank tumbled 13.78% to Rs 180.05 on 22 July 2026 after the lender lowered its FY27 exit return on assets (RoA) guidance and warned of sustained pressure on margins.
In its post-earnings conference call, the bank revised its FY27 exit RoA guidance to 1.2%-1.4% from 1.6%-1.8% earlier. Management also said net interest margins are likely to remain under pressure due to higher deposit costs. It identified aggressive deposit pricing, an uncertain global environment, monsoon-related risks, and higher technology spending as key challenges going forward. The cautious outlook prompted a domestic brokerage to downgrade the stock to 'Hold' from 'Buy', while retaining its target price of Rs 225. The brokerage also cut its FY27 and FY28 earnings estimates by 14% and 6%, respectively, and now expects the bank to deliver RoA of 1% in FY27 and 1.4% in FY28. For the quarter ended 30 June 2026, the bank reported a standalone net profit of Rs 501.67 crore, up 34.9% from Rs 371.96 crore a year earlier but down 6.1% from Rs 534.14 crore in the previous quarter. Net interest income rose 5.9% YoY to Rs 2,921 crore, while net revenue increased 1.2% YoY to Rs 3,524 crore. Net interest margin (NIM) stood at 6.2% in Q1 FY27, down 16 basis points YoY but up 2 basis points sequentially. Total income rose 0.5% YoY and 0.6% QoQ to Rs 6,234.38 crore. Operating profit before provisions and contingencies fell 18.6% YoY and 5.8% QoQ to Rs 1,358.10 crore. Profit before tax stood at Rs 675.52 crore, up 29.5% YoY but down 11.6% QoQ. The bank's provisions and contingencies declined 40.5% YoY to Rs 682.59 crore, although they were marginally higher than the Rs 677.01 crore reported in the March quarter. Gross advances increased 16.4% YoY to Rs 1,55,555 crore, while deposits rose 6.6% YoY to Rs 1,64,886 crore as of 30 June 2026. Retail deposits, comprising CASA and retail term deposits, accounted for 74% of total deposits, while secured advances grew 27% YoY and constituted nearly 57% of the loan book. Asset quality improved during the quarter. Gross NPAs declined to Rs 4,880.95 crore, with the gross NPA ratio improving to 3.15% from 3.27% in the previous quarter and 4.96% a year ago. Net NPAs stood at Rs 1,411.63 crore, while the net NPA ratio eased to 0.93% from 0.97% in Q4 FY26 and 1.36% in Q1 FY26. The provision coverage ratio, including technical write-offs, stood at 85.9%, while collection efficiency for Emerging Entrepreneurs Business (EEB) loans remained at 98.5%. Commenting on the results, managing director and CEO Partha Pratim Sengupta said the bank remains focused on customer-centric and digitally enabled growth by strengthening its distribution network, expanding product offerings, and leveraging data-driven insights to deliver sustainable long-term growth. The CASA ratio improved to 29.40% as of 30 June 2026, compared with 27.06% as of 30 June 2025 and 29.31% as of 31 March 2026. Loans and advances (on-book + PTC) increased 16.4% YoY to Rs 1,55,513 crore as of 30 June 2026. On a QoQ basis, loans and advances (on-book + PTC) rose 0.8% from Rs 1,54,233 crore as of 31 March 2026. The bank's liquidity coverage ratio (LCR) stood at approximately 146.65% as of 30 June 2026. Pan-bank collection efficiency (excluding NPAs) remained at approximately 98.9% in June 2026. Collection efficiency for the emerging entrepreneurs' business (EEB) segment stood at 98.5%, while that for the non-EEB segment was 99.4% in June 2026. Bandhan Bank is one of India's fastest-growing private sector banks. Bandhan Bank to auction NPAs worth Rs 303.74 crore to ARCs

Bandhan Bank said that its board has approved the proposal for sale of identified non-performing assets (NPA) that have principal outstanding amounting to Rs 303.74 crore to asset reconstruction companies.
In a regulatory filing made post market hours on Monday (15 June 2026), the private sector lender informed that its board of directors has approved the proposal for sale of identified Non-Performing Assets ('NPA') with more than 180 Days Past Due ('DPD'), pertaining to the Housing Finance Portfolio of the Bank. The principal outstanding amount of these assets is Rs. 303.74 crore as on 31 May 2026, The sale would occur through a bidding process with asset reconstruction companies (ARCs). The bank shall go for bidding as per Swiss Challenge method for sale of the aforesaid NPA portfolio. Bandhan Bank is one of India's fastest-growing private sector banks. Bandhan Bank posts PAT of Rs 530 crore in Q4

Bandhan Bank's standalone net profit jumped 68% to Rs 530 crore on 3.2% increase in net total income to Rs 3,570 crore in Q4 March 2026 over Q4 March 2025.
Net interest income (NII), the difference between interest earned and interest expended, rose 1.4% YoY to Rs 2,800 crore in Q4 FY26 from Rs 2,760 crore in the year-ago period. Operating profit declined 8.3% YoY to Rs 1,440 crore in the fourth quarter. Net interest margin (NIM) stood at 6.2% in Q4 FY26, down 46 bps on a yearly basis and down 30 bps sequentially. Asset quality improved during the quarter. Gross NPAs stood at Rs 5,019.55 crore as of March 2026, compared with Rs 4,804.98 crore in December 2025 and Rs 6,435.56 crore a year ago. The gross NPA ratio declined to 3.27% as on March 2026 as against 3.33% as on December 2025 and 4.71% as on March 2025. Net NPAs came in at 0.97%, improving from 0.99% in the previous quarter and 1.28% in the same period last year. Provisions declined sharply by 46.3% YoY to Rs 680 crore. Accordingly, profit before tax in Q4 FY26 stood at Rs 770 crore, up by 145.5% from Rs 310 crore recorded in Q4 FY25. On the business front, deposits rose 10% YoY to Rs 1.66 lakh crore while gross advances grew by 13% YoY to Rs 1.54 crore as of March 2026. As of March 31, 2026, the Bank's capital adequacy ratio including profits stood at 18.0% well above the regulatory requirement of 11.5%. Partha Pratim Sengupta, MD & CEO, said: 'Bandhan Bank's FY 2025'26 performance underscores the strength of our franchise, supported by disciplined execution and diversifying business model. We will continue to pursue customer-centric, digital-led growth by enhancing distribution channels, expanding our product suite, and leveraging data-driven insights to deliver sustainable, risk-adjusted growth.' Bandhan Bank reported total deposits rose by 10% to Rs 166,344 crore in the quarter ended 31 March 2026, compared to Rs 151,212 crore recorded in the quarter ended 31 March 2025.
The bank's total deposits rose by 6.1% compared with the Rs 156,724 crore reported in the quarter ended 31 December 2025. Bulk deposits stood at Rs 43,797 crore in Q4 FY26, down 6.9% YoY but rose 1.1% QoQ. The retail-to-total deposits ratio rose to 73.67% in the quarter ended 31 March 2026, compared to 68.88% recorded in the quarter ended 31 March 2025. The bank's CASA deposits stood at Rs 48,751 crore in Q4 FY26, up 2.8% YoY and 14.1% QoQ. The CASA ratio declined to 29.31% in the quarter ended 31 March 2026, compared to 31.37% in the quarter ended 31 March 2025 and 27.26% in the quarter ended December 2025. Loans and advances (on-book + PTC) increased by 12.6% to Rs 154,235 crore in Q4 FY26, compared to Rs 136,995 crore posted in the quarter ended 31 March 2025. On a QoQ basis, loans and advances (on-book + PTC) advanced 6.2% from Rs 145,224 crore. The bank's LCR as of 31 March 2026 stood approximately at 131.76%. Collection efficiency for the month of March 2026 was approximately 98.9%, compared with 98.1% in March 2025. The collection efficiency of the emerging entrepreneurs' business (EEB) (micro) segment was 98.6%, and that of the non-EEB segment was 99.3% in March 2026. Bandhan Bank is a private sector bank. The bank's distribution network spans over 6,500 outlets. The bank reported an 83.9% jump in standalone net profit to Rs 205.99 crore on a 7.8% increase in total income to Rs 6,122.24 crore in Q3 FY26 over Q2 FY26. Net profit of Bandhan Bank rose 68.02% to Rs 534.14 crore in the quarter ended March 2026 as against Rs 317.90 crore during the previous quarter ended March 2025. Total Operating Income declined 0.10% to Rs 5428.43 crore in the quarter ended March 2026 as against Rs 5433.86 crore during the previous quarter ended March 2025. For the full year,net profit declined 55.43% to Rs 1223.56 crore in the year ended March 2026 as against Rs 2745.30 crore during the previous year ended March 2025. Total Operating Income declined 1.18% to Rs 21689.11 crore in the year ended March 2026 as against Rs 21948.23 crore during the previous year ended March 2025. Sensex, Nifty trade in positive terrain; Oil & gas shares rally

The key equity barometers traded with significant gains in mid-morning trade as positive stock-specific triggers lifted investor sentiment despite lingering global uncertainties. Market participants will continue to monitor the progress of the monsoon, along with movements in crude oil, gold, and silver prices for further directional cues. The Nifty traded above 24,400 level. Oil & Gas shares witnessed buying demand for five consecutive trading sessions. At 12:25 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex jumped 551.78 points or 0.71% to 78,315.89. The Nifty 50 index surged 166.95 points or 0.69% to 24,437.80. The broader market underperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index shed 0.38% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index gained 0.19%. The market breadth was negative. On the BSE, 1,970 shares rose and 2,155 shares fell. A total of 221 shares were unchanged. In the commodities market, Brent crude for September 2026 settlement added 24 cents or 0.33% to $72.04 a barrel. Derivatives: The NSE's India VIX, a gauge of the market's expectation of volatility over the near term, rose 0.59% to 11.87. The Nifty 28 July 2026 futures were trading at 24,497, at a premium of 59.2 points as compared with the spot at 24,437.80. The Nifty option chain for the 28 July 2026 expiry showed a maximum call OI of 67.2 lakh contracts at the 25,000 strike price. A maximum put OI of 72.3 lakh contracts was seen at the 24,000 strike price. Buzzing Index: The Nifty Oil & Gas index rose 1.12% to 11,260.60. The index climbed 2.26% in the five consecutive trading sessions. Aegis Vopak Terminals (up 9.28%), Aegis Logistics (up 3.99%), Adani Total Gas (up 1.49%), Reliance Industries (up 1.34%) , Oil & Natural Gas Corpn (up 1.2%), GAIL (India) (up 0.94%), Indian Oil Corporation (up 0.7%), Mahanagar Gas (up 0.48%), Hindustan Petroleum Corporation (up 0.31%) and Oil India (up 0.3%) advanced. Stocks in Spotlight: Bandhan Bank added 3.27% after the company reported total deposits increased 6.6% year-on-year (YoY) to Rs 1,64,886 crore as of 30 June 2026, compared with Rs 1,54,666 crore as of 30 June 2025. Enviro Infra Engineers advanced 2.80% after the company announced that it has secured two prestigious hybrid annuity model (HAM) projects from Uttar Pradesh Jal Nigam (Rural). The aforesaid contract has been awarded under the Government of India's flagship Namami Gange Programme. The combined order value stands at Rs 256.92 crore. HDFC Bank rose 3.20% after the company reported its business update for the quarter ended 30 June 2026. For the quarter ended 30 June 2026, average advances under management (including interbank participation certificates, bills rediscounted, and securitization/assignment) increased 10.8% year-on-year (YoY) and 2.5% quarter-on-quarter (QoQ) to Rs 30,38,600 crore.
