The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved two significant railway projects in Bihar, Andhra Pradesh, and Telangana, with a total estimated cost of ₹6,798 crore. These projects aim to improve connectivity and infrastructure, covering a total length of 313 km.
The first project involves doubling the Narkatiaganj-Raxaul-Sitamarhi-Darbhanga and Sitamarhi-Muzaffarpur sections in Bihar, spanning 256 km. This initiative will enhance connectivity to Nepal, the North-east, and border areas, benefiting both passenger and goods transportation. It is expected to boost the socio-economic growth of the region, connecting 388 villages and about nine lakh people.
In Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the second project will construct a new 57 km railway line between Errupalem and Namburu via Amaravati, the proposed capital of Andhra Pradesh. With nine new stations, this line will connect 168 villages and serve about 12 lakh people.
Both projects are expected to be completed within five years, generating over 1.06 crore human-days of employment. The new lines will support increased freight traffic, especially in agriculture, steel, and cement sectors.
Environmentally, these projects will reduce CO2 emissions by 168 crore kg, equivalent to planting seven crore trees, supporting India’s climate goals.
