Trading will resume on May 21, following the election holiday. This closure is in accordance with Section 25 of the Negotiable Instruments Act 1881, emphasizing the significance of voter participation in democracy.

The closure aligns with voting across multiple Lok Sabha constituencies in Maharashtra including Mumbai, Thane, and Nashik among others. This pause in trading allows voters to focus on the elections without market distractions.

After the May 20 holiday for general elections, the next market closure will be on June 17 for Bakri Id. For the year 2024, the total number of trading holidays amounts to 15, reflecting a balanced approach to market activity and national observances.

In addition to these, the currency derivatives segment has a slightly different holiday schedule, with 20 closures throughout the year. Following the Lok Sabha election, the next scheduled break for this segment is Buddha Pournima on May 23.
