Nifty and Sensex opened strongly today, with Nifty surpassing the 25,000-point mark for the first time, and Sensex climbing over 300 points to reach 82,078.08. This marked a historic start to August, reflecting positive momentum across most sectors, except media, pharma, and realty.
In early trading, the metal sector led gains with a 1.54% increase, while other major sectors also showed strong performance. The broader market indices were largely positive, indicating a robust start to the month, although India VIX saw a decline of over 1%.
Key gainers in today’s market included Maruti, Coal India, Hindalco, JSW Steel, and Power Grid Corporation, driving the upward trend. Conversely, Mahindra and Mahindra, BPCL, Hero MotoCorp, Eicher Motors, and Sun Pharma were among the early laggards, facing declines.
The NIFTY50 and SENSEX set new records, with SENSEX hitting a high of 82,129.49 and NIFTY50 climbing 0.4% to break past the 25,000 threshold. Nifty Bank also gained, advancing 0.55% and trading above the 51,800 level.
Sectorally, the Nifty Metal, Oil & Gas, and Bank sectors recorded gains, while the Media, Realty, and Pharma sectors experienced declines. Notable top gainers included Coal India, Hindalco Industries, and Maruti, whereas Hero Motocorp, M&M, and UltraTech Cement were the main losers.
