Stock market today experienced a strong start on Thursday, September 12, bolstered by positive global cues. Healthy buying was evident across various sectors. By 9:30 AM, the S&P BSE SENSEX had climbed 432 points, or 0.53%, reaching 81,955.12, while the broader NIFTY50 was up 139 points, or 0.52%, at 25,057.10.
Tata Steel emerged as the leading gainer on the BSE, with a rise of 2.26%, followed by Adani Ports and Tech Mahindra. Conversely, Tata Motors was the biggest decliner, trading nearly 1% lower.
On the NSE, top gainers included Tata Steel, Shriram Finance, Adani Ports, Bharti Airtel, and Tech Mahindra. The biggest losers were Tata Motors, Asian Paints, M&M, and Nestle India. Sector-wise, metal stocks saw the most significant gains, with power and healthcare shares also performing well.
Honasa Consumer’s shares fell nearly 5% following news of a 10.9% equity stake being sold in a block deal. Meanwhile, NBCC shares rose over 3% after the company signed an MoU with MTNL for a ₹1,600 crore project in New Delhi.
Globally, US stock indexes ended higher on Wednesday, driven by tech sector gains despite an inflation report that dampened expectations for a major Federal Reserve rate cut. Asian markets followed suit, and oil prices increased due to concerns over Hurricane Francine affecting US output, though demand worries tempered gains.
