Why are stocks on NSE and BSE classified into different groups?

NSE classifies the stocks in different series, each series indicating the nature of the stock. Check out the list here. On the other hand, BSE classifies stocks into groups of ‘A’, ‘B’, ‘T’, and ‘Z’ based on certain quantitative and qualitative parameters. More on it here.
