What is the definition of the expense ratio?

Mutual Funds levy a fee for the management of invested capital, known as the expense ratio. Expressed as a percentage of Assets Under Management (AUM), the expense ratio is deducted from the Net Asset Value (NAV) before the daily NAV is declared. This ratio is disclosed monthly on the AMC website as part of the fund’s factsheet.
