Starting a mutual fund SIP can be difficult when you have to choose from many fund names, categories, and options. Alice Blue’s 1-Click Basket makes the process simpler by grouping multiple mutual funds into one basket.
You choose a basket based on your planned investment period, enter your SIP amount, and the amount is automatically divided across the funds included in that basket.
What Is 1-Click Basket?
1-Click Basket is available under the Mutual Fund section of the Alice Blue app. It allows you to start one SIP across multiple mutual fund schemes without setting up separate SIPs for each fund.
Each basket has:
- A fixed investment tenure
- A minimum SIP amount
- A selected group of mutual funds
- A pre-defined allocation for every fund
Your SIP is divided automatically according to the allocation shown in the basket. The fund mix and allocation remain the same during the selected tenure. There is no reshuffle or replacement of funds during this period.
For instance, if a basket has a 40%, 40%, and 20% allocation, a Rs 1,000 monthly SIP is divided as Rs 400, Rs 400, and Rs 200 across the three funds.
1-Click Basket Options
Basket | Investment period | Minimum SIP | Funds in the basket | Fund categories |
Short Term Basket | 3 years | Rs 500 | 3 funds | Large-cap mutual funds |
Mid Term Basket | 5 years | Rs 1,000 | 4 funds | Large-cap and mid-cap mutual funds |
Long Term Basket | 10 years | Rs 1,000 | 4 funds | Mid-cap mutual funds |
The baskets are designed to help investors spread their SIP across multiple schemes. However, selecting a basket should depend on your own investment objective, time horizon, financial situation, and risk appetite.
Why Do the Baskets Use Large-Cap and Mid-Cap Funds?
Mutual fund schemes can invest in companies of different sizes. In India, companies are classified by market capitalisation. Large-cap companies are within the top 100 companies by market capitalisation. Mid-cap companies are ranked from 101 to 250, while small-cap companies are ranked 251 onwards. sebi.gov+1
The Alice Blue 1-Click Baskets use large-cap and mid-cap fund categories in different combinations. This gives each basket a different structure rather than using the same category across all investment periods.
Fund category | Simple meaning | Included in which basket? |
Large-cap funds | These funds mainly invest in relatively large, established listed companies. | Short Term Basket and Mid Term Basket |
Mid-cap funds | These funds mainly invest in companies ranked below large-cap companies by market capitalisation. Their value can move sharply when market conditions change. | Mid Term Basket and Long Term Basket |
Small-cap funds | These funds invest in smaller listed companies and can also see sharp market movements. | Not part of the current 1-Click Baskets |
Why Large-Cap Funds Are Included
- Large-cap funds are included in the Short Term Basket and Mid Term Basket because they provide exposure to relatively large listed companies.
- The Short Term Basket uses only large-cap funds. The Mid Term Basket combines large-cap and mid-cap funds. This means that the two baskets have different category exposure even though both include large-cap funds.
For example, if you start a Rs 1,500 monthly SIP in the Short Term Basket, the entire amount is divided among three large-cap mutual fund schemes. You get exposure to multiple schemes through one SIP instead of putting the complete amount into a single fund.
Large-cap funds are equity mutual funds. Their value may rise or fall with market movements, and there is no assurance of returns or protection of the invested amount.
Why Mid-Cap Funds Are Included
- Mid-cap funds are used in the Mid Term and Long Term Baskets. They provide exposure to companies outside the large-cap universe.
- The Mid Term Basket combines large-cap and mid-cap funds. The Long Term Basket contains only mid-cap funds and comes with a 10-year tenure.
For example, if you start a Rs 2,000 SIP in the Mid Term Basket, it is distributed between one large-cap fund and three mid-cap funds based on the allocation displayed in the app. You do not have to calculate the split or create four different SIPs.
Mid-cap fund values can move sharply during market ups and downs. A longer investment tenure does not remove market risk, guarantee returns, or make a basket suitable for every investor.
Short Term Basket: 3-Year SIP
The Short Term Basket includes three large-cap mutual funds. You can start with a monthly SIP of Rs 500. The SIP amount is divided in a fixed 40%, 40%, and 20% split among the three funds.
Example
Suppose you choose a Rs 1,500 monthly SIP:
Fund | Allocation | Monthly SIP amount |
Large-cap Fund 1 | 40% | Rs 600 |
Large-cap Fund 2 | 40% | Rs 600 |
Large-cap Fund 3 | 20% | Rs 300 |
This same split continues for every monthly SIP instalment over the selected 3-year tenure.
This basket can be explored by someone planning to invest for around three years and looking to use one SIP to invest across multiple large-cap schemes.
Mid Term Basket: 5-Year SIP
The Mid Term Basket includes four mutual funds from large-cap and mid-cap categories. You can begin with a monthly SIP of Rs 1,000.
The fixed allocation is:
Fund | Category | Allocation |
Fund 1 | Large-cap growth fund | 14% |
Fund 2 | Mid-cap regular fund | 16% |
Fund 3 | Mid-cap growth fund | 15% |
Fund 4 | Mid-cap regular fund | 55% |
Example
If you start a Rs 2,000 monthly SIP, it is divided as follows:
Fund | Allocation | Monthly SIP amount |
Fund 1 | 14% | Rs 280 |
Fund 2 | 16% | Rs 320 |
Fund 3 | 15% | Rs 300 |
Fund 4 | 55% | Rs 1,100 |
The allocation remains fixed for the 5-year tenure. You do not need to create four separate SIPs or calculate the split each month.
Long Term Basket: 10-Year SIP
The Long Term Basket includes four mid-cap mutual funds. The minimum monthly SIP is Rs 1,000, and the basket is set for a 10-year investment period.
The allocation is:
Fund | Category | Allocation |
Fund 1 | Mid-cap growth fund | 14% |
Fund 2 | Mid-cap regular fund | 16% |
Fund 3 | Mid-cap growth fund | 15% |
Fund 4 | Mid-cap regular fund | 55% |
Example
If you start a Rs 3,000 monthly SIP, it is split this way:
Fund | Allocation | Monthly SIP amount |
Fund 1 | 14% | Rs 420 |
Fund 2 | 16% | Rs 480 |
Fund 3 | 15% | Rs 450 |
Fund 4 | 55% | Rs 1,650 |
The same allocation is followed throughout the 10-year tenure.
