Important Notes for Traders
F&O expiry shifts
When a weekly or monthly derivatives expiry falls on a holiday, the expiry moves to the previous trading day. Confirm the revised expiry with the exchange or your broker.
MCX evening sessions
On most festival holidays MCX closes only the morning session and keeps the evening session open, as it tracks international commodity markets. It is fully closed only when global markets are also shut.
Muhurat trading
A short, symbolic session on Diwali Laxmi Pujan (8 November 2026). Exact timings are notified by the exchanges via circular closer to the date.
Settlement considerations
Trades do not settle on holidays, so settlement and pay-in/pay-out dates shift to the next working day. Factor this in when you need funds or securities by a specific date.
After Market Orders (AMO)
You cannot trade during a holiday, but you can place After Market Orders with Alice Blue. They are queued and sent to the exchange when the next session opens.
Dates can be revised
Exchanges may add, remove or amend holidays through official circulars during the year. Always re-check against the official NSE, BSE and MCX notices before planning trades.
Trading Holidays 2026 — FAQs
NSE and BSE follow an identical equity trading-holiday calendar, so their closures match. MCX differs: on many festival holidays it closes only the morning session and keeps the evening session open, and it is fully closed only on a few days such as Republic Day, Good Friday, Gandhi Jayanti and Christmas.
There are 16 weekday trading holidays for NSE and BSE equity (and equity-side derivative) segments in 2026. An additional four festival holidays fall on weekends, and a special Muhurat session is held on Diwali Laxmi Pujan.
