Trent has reported 19% rise in revenue to Rs 5,666 crore in Q1 FY27 from Rs 4,781 crore in Q1 FY26.
Sequentially, the company's revenue has risen by 14.77% from Rs 4,937 crore in Q4 FY26. The company stated that the revenue from sale of merchandise (excl. other operating income) grew by 19% YoY during the quarter ended June 2026. As of 30 June 2026, the company's portfolio of 1312 stores include 301 Westside, 982 Zudio (including 7 in the UAE) and 29 stores across other lifestyle concepts. This involved a net addition of 1 Westside and 19 Zudio stores during the quarter. These strong numbers, however, failed to cheer investors. Consequently, the scrip tumbled 11.20% to currently trade at Rs 2969 on the BSE. As per media reports, a global research house had expected the company's revenue growth figure to be in the low-to-mid twenties. Based the reported numbers, as per the research firm, the company has also recorded decline in average revenue per square foot (assuming the same new-store size as the trailing twelve months), despite benefiting from a relatively weak base. The investment firm reportedly remains cautious on Trent due to the continued weakness in revenue per square foot, increasing competition, the impact of cannibalisation, and the company's expansion into tier-II and tier-III towns. Trent is part of the Tata Group and operates a portfolio of retail concepts. The primary customer propositions of Trent include Westside, one of India's leading chains of fashion retail stores, Zudio, a one stop destination for great fashion at great value and Star, which operates in the competitive food, grocery and daily needs segment. The company reported a 29.95% jump in standalone net profit to Rs 454.75 crore on a 20.22% increase in revenue from operations to Rs 4,936.64 crore in Q4 FY26 over Q4 FY25. Trent jumped 4.18% to Rs 3273 after the company's management outlined its long-term growth strategy for its fashion and value-retail businesses at the 47th annual general meeting (AGM).
The company plans to add around 50 Westside stores annually, while continuing the rapid rollout of 200-250 Zudio stores every year. The company also expects to add 25-40 Star stores annually. Management outlined an ambitious expansion plan, with Westside having the potential to grow to around 700 stores from roughly 300 currently. The larger opportunity lies in Zudio, which Trent believes could eventually support around 5,000 stores across India, compared with nearly 960 stores at present. The company also indicated that both Westside and Zudio could eventually expand overseas, opening as additional growth avenue beyond the domestic market. Meanwhile, Noel Tata, 69, announced that he will step down as the chairman of Trent, concluding a nearly three-decade-long association with the Tata group's retail business. Trent is part of the Tata Group and operates a portfolio of retail concepts. In Q4 FY26, online revenues grew 25% and accounted for over 6% of Westside's revenues. The Star business comprises 84 stores, including the addition of 12 stores and closure of six stores during the year ended 31 March 2026. The company said it is undertaking multiple initiatives, including technology-led interventions, aimed at enhancing differentiation and improving customer convenience. Noel N Tata, chairman, Trent said, 'In FY26, the business delivered encouraging performance, while navigating multiple macroeconomic and geopolitical developments with resilience. We believe that the consumer sentiment would recover further in the coming months once the geopolitical environment settles down. The Indian consumer continues to evolve with growing aspirations and increasing access to a diverse set of offerings. In this context, we believe, a differentiated customer proposition that builds on relevance and ubiquitous presence will continue to see much traction. We are still in the initial laps of our growth and we remain committed to building out a portfolio of brands that address the significant market opportunity in the lifestyle space. In our Star business, we continue to apply Trent's playbook and the contribution of our own brands and products is now trending over 73% of revenues. We recognize that the expansion program for Star stores has been slower vis-'-vis our expectations and we are looking to accelerate this agenda in the coming years. We are also looking to make select commitments to retail real estate that allows Star to viably access dense catchments. The food and grocery opportunity is significant and the Star model is differentiated. We remain convinced that this business is well poised to deliver growing consumer value in the years ahead.' Meanwhile, the board has recommended a dividend of Rs 6 per equity share (600%) of face value Rs 1 for FY26, subject to shareholder approval at the upcoming Annual General Meeting (AGM). Furthermore, the company's board has approved an enabling resolution to raise up to Rs 2,500 crore through the issuance of equity shares. The funds may be raised via a rights issue or other permitted methods, either individually or in combination, and in one or more tranches, subject to necessary regulatory and shareholder approvals. The timing of the fundraise will be decided and undertaken in due course. The company also approved the appointment of Bahram Vakil as a non-executive non-independent director and reappointed Ravneet Singh Gill and Hema Ravichandar as independent directors for a second term.
