Hyundai Motor India Ltd. is gearing up to expand its electric vehicle (EV) production, with plans to export its upcoming EV models to markets similar to India. The company aims to strengthen its position as a production hub for emerging markets and will explore opportunities for exporting EVs based on demand and infrastructure availability.

The automaker has lined up four new electric vehicles for the future, including an electric version of its popular SUV, Creta, expected to launch by Q4 FY25. These EVs will cater to both the mass and mass premium segments, focusing on making India a key production centre for these vehicles.

According to Hyundai Motor India Ltd. COO Tarun Garg, the company is open to exporting EVs to other markets depending on demand and available infrastructure. Hyundai already exports to over 80 countries, and the new EVs could follow a similar export strategy if market conditions are favourable.

Garg emphasised that the company’s primary focus is developing EVs for the Indian market. However, Hyundai will continue to explore emerging markets with similar customer preferences, such as Africa, the Middle East, and Latin America, which are natural fits for their India-made products.

Hyundai’s strategy of centralising production for the Indian market is designed to achieve economies of scale, and any potential exports will follow the same approach. The company has a history of successfully exporting India-made vehicles to markets with similar needs, which could extend to its EVs in the future.
