What Is Demat Account?

A Demat account is like a digital bank account for your investments in stocks, bonds, and other securities. It replaces paper certificates with electronic storage, making buying and selling shares faster and more secure, and simplifies managing your investment portfolio.

For example, purchased shares are directly credited to the Demat account, and similarly, shares are debited when sold. Comparable to a bank account, but specifically for securities like shares and bonds, it simplifies investment processes and portfolio management.

Eligibility to Open  Demat Account

Both residents and non-residents can open Demat accounts, with minors under 18 having theirs operated by guardians. Post-18, individuals must submit KYC documents to transition their account for independent stock market dealings, allowing direct participation in investments from a young age.
